groups after the induction of either hemodilution or hypoxic hypoxia. Although it would be inappropriate to interpolate results obtained under normal conditions to those that may be applicable under ischemic conditions, we must agree that the magnitude of hypoxic insult caused by hemodilution or hypoxia may be different between the two groups. However, this does not imply that the blood flow augmentation recorded in the hemodilution group was caused by hypoxic stimulation. If this were true, blood flow in the hypoxic hypoxia group should have increased after the induction of hypoxia. On the contrary, we observed a decrease in blood flow after the induction of hypoxic hypoxia. Therefore, it seems quite appropriate to speculate that the blood flow augmentation observed only in the hemodilution group was caused by a mechanism other than hypoxia.

Patient with pontine warning syndrome and bilateral posterior internuclear ophthalmoplegia: case report

BACKGROUND Capsular warning syndrome was first described in 1993, featured with repetitive episodes of motor and/or sensory dysfunction without cortical signs. Recently, it has been demonstrated that clinically typical capsular warning syndrome can be associated with pontine infarct and the term oepontine warning syndrome was coined. CASE PRESENTATION A 54-year-old woman with a history of hyp...

Population-based study of capsular warning syndrome and prognosis after early recurrent TIA.

OBJECTIVE Many guidelines recommend emergency assessment for patients with ≥2 TIAs within 7 days, perhaps in recognition of the capsular warning syndrome. However, it is unclear whether all patients with multiple TIAs are at high early risk of stroke and whether treatable underlying pathologies are more prevalent in this group. METHODS We studied clinical characteristics, Trial of Org 10172 i...

Diffusion-weighted MRI findings in patients with capsular warning syndrome.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The 'capsular warning syndrome' (CWS) of recurrent stereotyped episodes of motor or sensory dysfunction is clinically well recognized, and is associated with a high risk of imminent lacunar infarction with permanent deficits resembling those of CWS. However, the pathophysiology of CWS has not been well characterized. We report a clinicoanatomic correlation with MR imaging...

Pure motor hemiplegia: CT study of 30 cases.

Pure motor hemiplegia (PMH) is a well defined syndrome usually caused by ischemic lesions of lacunar type located either in the internal capsule or in the pons. Angiography and isotope scanning are usually normal. CT scan reveals small deep infarcts and appears to be the most reliable investigative method. The CT scan findings are described of thirty patients with PMH of rapid onset (less than ...

A Step-Wise Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Approach of Central Pontine and Extra Pontine Myelinosis in Locked-In Syndrome: A Case Report

Central Pontine Myelinosis (CPM) and Extra Pontine Myelinosis (EPM) are debilitating conditions, resulting from the rapid correction of hyponatremia. The outcome and prognosis of this medical condition are variable; mainly involving functional decline from neuro-musculoskeletal upset. An intensive, multidisciplinary rehabilitation has played an essential role in facilitating and hasten recovery...
